Leah Van Loon
Hi, I’m Leah Van Loon, a fashion writer, stylist, and Paris expert. From my beginnings as a stylist in 1994 to running my Paris tour business for the last 10 years, I’ve been writing for publications focused on fashion and travel. I currently write regularly for Elle Canada and other local and national publications, and am sometimes interviewed as a fashion and travel expert by CBC and other outlets.
I’ve been working in fashion for over 30 years, styling photo shoots, wardrobing commercials, film, and television, and in that time, I’ve also had a few other fashion careers. I was a visual display artist at Holt Renfrew for 5 years, creating props, merchandising windows and styling mannequins. I’ve been a period wardrobe consultant for film and TV series, and I’ve even worked as a social media photographer backstage at major fashion shows in Milan and Paris for genius makeup artist Pat McGrath. During my Paris tours, I shared my fashion history expertise by taking clients through fashion exhibitions, curated vintage shopping, and specialty sourcing from artisan workshops and couture suppliers. I am still an image consultant for production companies and a brand consultant for fashion shows, advertising, and e-commerce, and I still work with a select list of personal clients.
These days, I spend most of my time at home in Calgary, Canada, with my Yorkshire Terrier, Gigi and still travel to Paris when I can. Currently, I am getting into gemstones, lapidary, and Haute Joaillerie (High Jewellery), but you’ll probably find me most days digging in the dirt of my zone 4b garden.
I am available for commentary as a fashion expert and accept writing assignments outside my regular pitches. I also offer image consultations, wardrobe edits, and shopping services for personal clients. I am always eager to share my insights about Paris with clients and publications.
